Fatal ICE Shooting Triggers Protests

Protests Erupt Across US Over Fatal ICE Shooting of Minneapolis Woman

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in cities across the United States on Saturday, demanding justice for Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for the removal of federal immigration authorities from local communities.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, Good was shot by ICE agent Jonathan Ross on Wednesday while she was in her vehicle. Witnesses describe the scene as chaotic, with Good’s car backing up slowly before proceeding forward, at which point the agent fired three shots, killing her.

The shooting has reignited debates about ICE operations and the Trump administration’s immigration policies. “ICE’s violence is not a statistic, it has names, families, and futures attached to it, and we refuse to look away or stay silent,” said Leah Greenberg, co-executive director of Indivisible.

Protesters in Minneapolis, where the shooting occurred, marched through the streets, chanting slogans like “Abolish ICE” and “No justice, no peace — get ICE off our streets”. Similar demonstrations took place in other cities, including Washington D.C., Los Angeles, and Chicago, with over 1,000 protests planned nationwide.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has demanded that ICE leave the city, saying the agency’s presence is not welcome. “We will not counter Donald Trump’s chaos with our own brand of chaos,” he said, urging protesters to remain peaceful.

The FBI is leading the investigation into Good’s death, with many calling for transparency and accountability. As tensions remain high, protesters are expected to continue demanding justice for Renee Good.
