Valencia Coach Fernando Martín and Three Children Die in Tragic Boat Accident

Valencia CF’s women’s reserve team coach, Fernando Martín, and his three children tragically lost their lives in a boat accident in Indonesia. The incident occurred on Friday, December 26, 2025, when the tourist vessel they were on sank in the Padar Island Strait near Labuan Bajo, a popular tourist destination.
The boat, carrying 11 people, was hit by 10-foot waves and suffered engine failure, leading to its sinking. Martín, 44, and his children, aged 9, 10, and 12, were initially reported missing, and their deaths were later confirmed by local authorities.
Martín’s wife, Andrea, and their 7-year-old daughter, Mar, survived the accident, along with four crew members and a tour guide. The survivors were rescued and taken to Labuan Bajo for medical treatment. Valencia CF has expressed its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Martín.
The football community is in shock, with Real Madrid and other clubs paying tribute to Martín. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Fernando Martín, coach of Valencia CF Femenino B, and three of his children, in the tragic boat accident in Indonesia,” Valencia CF said in a statement.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, with Indonesian authorities searching for the bodies of those still missing. The incident has led to the temporary closure of Padar Island to tourists due to extreme weather conditions.
