Appau-Klu Wishes BECE Candidates Well, Warns Against Exam Malpractices

Lawyer, Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Elsie Appau-Klu has extended her best wishes to candidates sitting this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), while cautioning them to shun all forms of examination malpractice. In a goodwill message released on Sunday ahead of the nationwide exams, Appau-Klu urged the candidates to remain confident and disciplined as they take what she described as “the first major academic milestone” in their educational journey. “I wish every BECE candidate success. You have prepared, your teachers have guided you, and your families are behind you. Trust your ability and give it your best,” she said.

Zero tolerance for malpractice

Appau-Klu, who is known for her work with youth and education-focused NGOs in the Volta Region, stressed that integrity must guide the process. She admonished candidates, invigilators, and school authorities to reject cheating, leaks, and any attempt to compromise the exams.“There are no shortcuts to lasting success. Malpractice destroys your future and the credibility of our educational system. Choose hard work over dishonesty,” she cautioned. She further appealed to parents and guardians to support candidates with prayer and encouragement rather than pressure that could push them toward illegal help.

A Call to stakeholders

She also called on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the Ghana Education Service, and security agencies to tighten monitoring to ensure a smooth, credible examination. “Let us protect these children and the integrity of BECE. A fair exam today builds trustworthy leaders tomorrow,” she added.
