The Ghana Police Service has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, intercepting a Volvo truck carrying suspected cannabis worth over GHC 1.4 million in the Oti Region. The truck, with registration number GC 3522-09, was intercepted on December 29, 2025, while heading towards Kpasa. The driver and owner fled, abandoning the vehicle.
According to a press release signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, Oti Regional PRO, the Jasikan Circuit Court, presided over by Judge Lambert Y. Karrieba, issued an order to open the truck. The search, conducted in the presence of security personnel, media, and other officials in Nkwanta, yielded 91 bales of suspected cannabis, cleverly concealed beneath cartons of bottled water.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to combating drug trafficking and related offenses in the region. “We remain resolute in our efforts to clamp down on criminal networks involved in narcotics trade,” the statement said.
The Oti Regional Police Command has urged members of the public to volunteer information that will assist in crime prevention and detection. The seized substances have been retained as investigations continue.
