GES Condemns Alleged Theft of Student Food Supplies at Awaso STEM SHS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned the alleged theft of food supplies meant for students at Awaso STEM Senior High School in the Western North Region. The school’s matron, Benedicta Nyamadi, and a cook, Rachel Kyeremeng, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to reports, the stolen items include 21 bags of rice, six gallons of cooking oil, 40 tins of tomato paste, and other essential provisions meant for the students’ daily meals. The Municipal Chief Executive of Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Sebastian Obeng, acted on credible intelligence and alerted the police, leading to the recovery of the stolen food items.

The GES has assured parents and the public that it does not tolerate any form of misconduct that undermines student welfare. The Service is cooperating fully with the Ghana Police Service’s ongoing investigation and has pledged to apply appropriate sanctions where necessary.

The incident has sparked outrage, and the GES is urging all school staff to uphold integrity and transparency in managing public resources. The Service has robust monitoring mechanisms in place to prevent such incidents and protect students’ welfare.

The police are continuing their investigation, and the suspects are currently in custody, assisting with the probe. The GES is committed to maintaining high standards of accountability across all educational institutions.
