Ghana Airports Company Limited has announced a new airport development fee, effective today, April 1, with international round-trip passengers expected to pay an additional $100. The levy is projected to generate approximately $800 million to fund critical aviation infrastructural projects across the country.
According to Ekow Boakye, the fee is part of efforts to upgrade and modernize Ghana’s airport facilities, enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers. ECOWAS trips will attract a $15 charge, while other African routes will incur a $30 fee.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited says the revenue generated from the levy will be used to improve airport infrastructure, including the expansion and renovation of terminal buildings, upgrade of navigation systems, and enhancement of security measures.
“The introduction of this levy is a necessary step to ensure that our airports meet international standards and provide a seamless travel experience for passengers,” said Ekow Boakye.
The new charges are part of the government’s efforts to boost economic growth and development through investments in the aviation sector. Passengers are advised to factor in the additional cost when planning their travel.
