Agyapong’s Loyalty Questioned Ahead of NPP Primaries

The NPP flagbearer race is heating up, with concerns emerging over Kennedy Agyapong’s commitment to supporting the winning candidate if he loses the primaries. Bryan Acheampong, another presidential hopeful, has expressed unease over Agyapong’s reluctance to commit to backing the eventual winner.
According to Joy News, Acheampong questioned Agyapong’s ability to unite the party and mobilize support from other contenders if he emerges victorious. “With this kind of emotional outburst, can he galvanize the support of the other aspirants if he wins?” Acheampong asked.
The Abetifi MP emphasized that the NPP exists to win elections, not to cater to individual members’ emotions or happiness. He warned that the party will not hesitate to sideline anyone who cannot help secure electoral victory.
Agyapong has been leading in recent polls, with some surveys indicating he has crossed the 50% mark. However, his campaign has been marred by allegations of financial influence from rival candidates, particularly Acheampong ¹ ² ³.
Acheampong’s comments come amid heightened internal debates as the NPP intensifies preparations for its presidential primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections. The party’s five aspirants are vying for the top spot, with Agyapong, Acheampong, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in the running.
The outcome of the primaries is expected to have significant implications for the party’s chances in the 2028 elections.
