Strike Looms as Local Gov’t Workers Down Tools

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CILGSO) has announced an indefinite strike, citing unresolved grievances over working conditions and benefits. The move is expected to disrupt local government services nationwide.

According to #GHOneNews, the association’s decision follows a breakdown in negotiations with government over key issues, including salary arrears and staff regularization. CILGSO leaders say they’ve been forced to take drastic action to press home their demands.

The strike will affect various local government departments, including district assemblies and municipal offices. Services such as birth and death registration, revenue collection, and waste management are likely to be impacted.

CILGSO General Secretary, Daniel Ntow-Kusi, emphasized that the strike is a last resort, aimed at pushing government to address legitimate concerns. “We have been patient, but enough is enough,” he said.

The government has been urged to engage with the union to resolve the impasse. The strike’s timing is critical, coming ahead of the country’s budget presentation.

As citizens brace for disruptions, stakeholders await government’s response to the strike notice.
