Baba Ali Concedes Defeat to NDC’s Baba Jamal

In a surprising turn of events, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East, Baba Ali, has officially conceded to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Baba Jamal, marking a significant shift in the constituency’s political landscape.

According to #3NewsGH, Baba Ali’s concession comes after a closely contested by-election, which was necessitated by the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure. The NDC’s Baba Jamal is projected to have won the election with a significant margin, securing 75% of the votes, while Baba Ali trailed with 21% {{IE_0}}¹{{/IE_0}} {{IE_1}}²{{/IE_1}}.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Baba Ali described the voting process as peaceful, with voters queuing up to cast their ballots amidst a heavy security presence. “It’s a very relaxed atmosphere at the moment. The Ayawaso East by-election has been a critical test for the NPP’s recovery ahead of the 2028 elections. However, the party’s candidate, Baba Ali, had expressed confidence in his chances of winning, citing extensive grassroots engagement and a strong campaign.

The outcome of the election is seen as a significant boost for the NDC, which has been seeking to regain momentum in the constituency. The NDC’s Baba Jamal emerged as the party’s candidate after winning the internal primaries, defeating Hajia Amina Adam.

As the results are still being finalized, the focus now shifts to the implications of the election outcome for the parties involved. The NPP is likely to reassess its strategy ahead of future elections, while the NDC will look to build on the momentum generated by this victory.
