Cybercrime Crackdown: Ghana Police Nab Fraudsters

The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Cyber Security Authority, has made significant strides in combating cybercrime, arresting suspects involved in SIM box fraud, impersonation, and mobile money fraud. According to MyJoyOnline, the operations took place in Sakumono and Vakpo, Volta Region, targeting both Ghanaian and foreign nationals.
In Sakumono, authorities dismantled a SIM box fraud network, arresting three Nigerian nationals and a Ghanaian landlord. The suspects, identified as Timileyin Fakunle, 30, Begun Adedeji, 31, and Olamide Roheemot, 28, were found with sophisticated electronic gadgets and SIM cards. Police are working with the National Communications Authority to examine the recovered equipment.
In a separate operation, a three-member Ghanaian syndicate involved in impersonation, sextortion, and mobile money fraud was arrested in Vakpo. The authorities are intensifying efforts to combat cybercrime, urging the public to report suspicious activities.
Acting Director General of the Cyber Security Authority, Divine Selase Agbeti, emphasized the importance of international collaboration and victim protection in ensuring a safer digital environment. The police have cautioned property owners to verify tenants’ identities to prevent such activities.
The crackdown reflects Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its cybersecurity framework and protecting citizens from online fraud. The country has recorded significant losses to cybercrime, with over 2,000 incidents reported in the first half of 2025.
