NDC Disputes Ashanti Region Parliamentary Results

NDC Disputes Ashanti Region Parliamentary Results, Claims 12 Seats Won

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is contesting the results of the 2024 parliamentary elections in the Ashanti Region, claiming that they won 12 seats, contrary to the eight declared by the Electoral Commission (EC). NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, expressed discontent with the EC’s decision, citing irregularities that affected the outcome.

According to Kaleawo FM, the NDC has petitioned the court to challenge the results in three constituencies, namely Ahafo Ano South-West, Obuasi East, and Ahafo Ano North, where they believe their candidates legitimately won. The party is seeking redress to ensure that the true will of the people is reflected in the parliamentary representation.

The NDC’s claims are based on their internal tally, which shows they secured 12 seats in the Ashanti Region. However, the EC has only declared eight seats in favor of the NDC, sparking controversy and tension. The party’s petition to the court is expected to shed light on the disputed results.

The Ashanti Region has a total of 47 parliamentary seats, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) currently holding 37 seats, the NDC holding 9 seats, and an Independent candidate holding 1 seat. The disputed seats are crucial in determining the balance of power in Parliament.

The NDC’s move to challenge the results is seen as a bid to ensure that their candidates are given a fair chance to represent their constituencies. The party’s leadership has vowed to pursue all legal avenues to resolve the dispute.

The outcome of the court case is eagerly awaited, as it may impact the composition of Parliament and the country’s political landscape.
