US Embassy in Ghana Closes for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

 

The US Embassy in Ghana will be closed on Monday, January 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and will reopen on Tuesday, January 20.

 

According to GHOne News, the embassy’s closure is in line with the US federal holiday, which is observed on the third Monday of January every year. Martin Luther King Jr. Day honors the late civil rights leader’s birthday and his tireless efforts towards achieving racial equality in the United States.

 

Martin Luther King Jr. was a prominent figure in the American civil rights movement, advocating for nonviolent activism and leading several groundbreaking campaigns, including the Montgomery bus boycott and the March on Washington.

 

The US Embassy’s closure will affect various services, including visa applications and other diplomatic activities. The embassy will resume normal operations on January 20.

 

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday in the United States, signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1983. It is observed annually to commemorate King’s birth and legacy.
