The ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health, and John Kwadwo Gyapong, Oti Regional Minister. The Lordina Mahama Foundation has been instrumental in constructing the facility, which is part of its efforts to improve access to quality healthcare for mothers and children {{IE_0}}¹{{/IE_0}}.

The new ward is expected to provide a more conducive environment for expectant mothers, ensuring safer and more dignified care during childbirth. According to Jacqueline Abapanyin, a midwife, the current state of the labour room at the Asukawkaw clinic is inadequate, highlighting the challenges faced by expectant mothers and healthcare workers.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Krachi East member of parliament, Nelson Kofi Djabab, and the Lordina Mahama Foundation. The foundation has already completed three modern maternity and children’s wards across Ghana, aimed at strengthening maternal and child healthcare delivery {{IE_2}}³{{/IE_2}} {{IE_3}}⁴{{/IE_3}}.

The commissioning of the new maternity ward is expected to bring hope and relief to the people of Asukawkaw and surrounding communities.
