Black Stars Fundraising Drive Gains Momentum

Ghana’s campaign to raise funds for the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup has received a significant boost, with state institutions and corporate entities pledging additional financial support. According to #GhanaWeb, the Bank of Ghana has contributed GH¢5 million, while the Ghana Revenue Authority has transferred US$300,000 into the committee’s dollar account.

The fundraising drive, which has about two weeks left, has also received support from Timeline and Innovation Company Ltd, which has added another GH¢1 million to its earlier contribution, bringing its total support to GH¢2 million. SIC Insurance Company Limited has also joined the campaign with a donation of GH¢1 million.

Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem expressed optimism that the fundraising efforts would be successful, stating that the funds raised would be handed over to the Sports Ministry for utilization. He noted that the committee had opened cedi, dollar, euro, and pound sterling accounts at the central bank to facilitate contributions in multiple currencies.

Managing Director of SIC Insurance, Solomon Twum Barimah, emphasized the company’s commitment to national development and football, saying, “It is only proper and good that we come in to support them so that they can go and make Ghana proud.” The company is also preparing additional life insurance packages for the team.

The Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup is seen as a significant opportunity for Ghana to showcase its football talent on the global stage. The fundraising drive is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the team’s preparations.
