Tidal Wave Project Stagnates Amid Funds Mismatch

The West Africa Coastal Areas Project, aimed at mitigating the devastating impact of tidal waves in the Volta Region, is facing significant delays, according to Richard Kwami Sefe, MP for Anlo. Despite Parliament’s approval of a $150m World Bank loan for the initiative in 2023, a substantial portion of the funds has been diverted to workshops and meetings, leaving the core project unattended.
According to #39;ThreeNewsGH, the MP expressed frustration over the slow pace of implementation, emphasizing that the project is crucial for protecting communities from the ravages of tidal waves.
The West Africa Coastal Areas Project is designed to address the impact of climate change, coastal erosion, and flooding in vulnerable areas. Sefe lamented that the diversion of funds has hindered progress, leaving communities exposed to the dangers of tidal waves.
The MP’s concerns highlight the need for accountability and transparency in the management of development projects. The people of the Volta Region are counting on the successful implementation of this project to safeguard their livelihoods and properties.
As the government faces pressure to accelerate the project, stakeholders expect concrete actions to address the challenges and ensure the effective utilization of the loan.
