
Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has joined with the 66 Artillery Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces to commemorate their 60th Anniversary Grand Durbar. According to #GhanaNews, the event was held at the Volta Barracks in Ho under the theme “Six Decades of Dedicated Service.”
The celebration was attended by dignitaries, including Hon. Prosper Douglas Bani, the Guest of Honour, and H.E Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State. In his remarks, Brigadier General Selorm Kwasi Amengor, Commander of the 16 Artillery Brigade, praised the Regiment for its outstanding performance in international peacekeeping missions.
The 66 Artillery Regiment has a rich history, dating back to 1966. Over the years, the Regiment has played a critical role in maintaining peace and stability in the Volta and Oti Regions, particularly in communities such as Nkonya, Alavanyo, and Nkwanta. The Regiment has also participated in international peacekeeping missions in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Lebanon.
Lieutenant Colonel Jalali Din Ibrahim, Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment, expressed gratitude for the recognition and support. Hon. James Gunu commended the Regiment for its dedication and service to the nation, urging them to continue their good work.
The celebration highlighted the Regiment’s commitment to excellence and its role as a pillar of strength within the Ghana Army. As Brigadier General Amengor noted, the work of a Gunner requires precision, expertise, teamwork, and discipline – qualities that the 66 Artillery Regiment has consistently demonstrated over the past six decades.
