Mahama Boosts Security Recruitment with 40,000 Target

President John Dramani Mahama has directed a significant expansion of recruitment across Ghana’s security services, increasing the intake target from 20,000 to 40,000 personnel over the next four years. According to #GhanaNews, the President emphasized the need for transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to due process throughout the recruitment exercise.

The directive follows a high-level meeting with heads of the country’s security agencies and key government officials, aimed at strengthening national security capacity and improving operational readiness. The President’s decision is expected to create additional employment opportunities for young Ghanaians seeking careers in the security sector.

The expanded recruitment drive is part of the government’s broader agenda to strengthen public safety and create employment opportunities for the country’s growing youth population. The President has instructed security agency heads to ensure that the recruitment process is conducted with transparency and fairness, avoiding controversies that have affected previous exercises.

The meeting was attended by top government and security officials, including the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the President, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, and National Security Coordinator. The Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of Prisons, Director-General of the Fire Service, Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, and Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission were also present.

The expanded recruitment target is expected to boost personnel strength across the security services, enhancing Ghana’s national security architecture. The government has urged applicants who were unsuccessful in earlier exercises to remain patient, as another recruitment exercise is expected in 2026.
