Ghanaian UN Peacekeepers Hit by Lebanon Missile Attacks

The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that its battalion headquarters in Southern Lebanon came under two missile attacks between 1745 and 1752 hours local time today, amidst escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. According to #GhanaArmedForces, the attacks are a fallout of the ongoing exchanges between the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah.

The Ghanaian contingent, part of the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) in Lebanon, is currently assessing the situation. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or damage to property.

The attack on the Ghanaian base is a serious concern, given the country’s long-standing commitment to UN peacekeeping missions. Ghana has been a key contributor to UNIFIL since 2010, with troops deployed to maintain peace and stability in the region.

The international community is calling for restraint and calm, as the situation in Lebanon continues to be volatile. The Ghana Armed Forces are working closely with UNIFIL and other stakeholders to ensure the safety of its personnel.

The UNIFIL mandate is to maintain peace and security in Southern Lebanon, and the Ghanaian contingent plays a vital role in this effort. The attack on the base is a stark reminder of the risks faced by peacekeepers in conflict zones.

The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
