The government has revoked the appointments of 541 individuals recruited after the 2024 election, citing failure to comply with due process. This decision follows a review by a committee established by the Chief of Staff, which examined 2,080 cases of post-election recruitments, appointments, and promotions in the public service.
According to the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, 1,539 appointments were upheld as they met the required standards, while 541 were revoked for procedural breaches. The committee’s review aimed to ensure fairness, compliance with laid-down rules, and the integrity of public sector recruitment.
The revoked appointments were largely those completed after December 7, 2024, and failed to meet the necessary compliance standards. However, the committee granted clemency to some individuals with disabilities, allowing them to regularize their status and remain in the public service.
The government has accused the previous administration of sanctioning irregular appointments despite being aware of procedural breaches. The exercise is seen as a necessary step to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability in public sector recruitment.
The affected institutions include the Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Highway Authority, and the National Health Insurance Authority, among others. The committee’s report has been submitted to relevant institutions for further action.
The government emphasizes that the decision was not politically motivated but focused on ensuring due process and compliance with public sector recruitment regulations.
