Tension Erupts at Akan Constituency Polling Station

 

 

Voting in the NPP presidential primaries at the Akan Constituency in the Oti Region was nearly disrupted yesterday due to a heated disagreement between an agent of Kennedy Agyapong and the constituency elections and research officer. The dispute arose over the agent’s seating arrangement, with allegations of interference in the voting process.

 

According to Joy News, the agent objected to the research officer’s proximity to election officials, sparking a heated exchange that required police intervention to prevent escalation. The situation was eventually brought under control, allowing voting to continue.

 

The incident highlights the tense atmosphere surrounding the NPP primaries, with several high-profile candidates vying for the party’s flagbearership. The frontrunners, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong, are expected to face off in a closely contested election.

 

  1. The Electoral Commission has assured a fair and transparent process, dismissing allegations of irregularities as baseless. The commission’s Deputy Director of Research, Fred Tetteh, emphasized that everything is in place for a credible election.

 

The Akan Constituency has 645 delegates eligible to vote, with polling taking place at the Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School. The outcome of the election is expected to provide insight into the party’s prospects for the 2028 general elections.
