Abu Trica Extradition Case Takes Dramatic Turn as Judge Refuses State's Bid to Drop Charges

The ongoing extradition case involving social media influencer Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has taken a surprising turn. According to (link unavailable), the state had filed to discontinue the case against the second and third accused persons, but the sitting judge, Justice Bernice Ackon, refused and effectively distanced herself from the state’s decision.
Lawyer Robert Ishmael Aggrey Amissah, representing the second accused, criticized the court’s decision, stating, “We have come to meet Pontius Pilate in court today.” The judge’s refusal to discharge the two accused persons has left their fate uncertain, despite the state’s claim of lacking evidence against them.
The Gbese District Court in Accra had adjourned the case to February 7, 2026, for ruling. The defense team has since filed a bail application at the High Court, scheduled for hearing on January 20, 2026. Graphic Online reports that the state’s decision to drop charges was based on concluded investigations, which found no basis to continue proceedings against the two accused.
Abu Trica’s lawyer, Oliver Barker Vormawor, argued that the withdrawal of charges against the alleged conspirators renders the case against his client legally untenable. However, the prosecution opposed the application, citing that Abu Trica’s extradition proceedings are separate from the dropped charges.
The case has sparked intense reactions, with some questioning the judicial process. The defense team is pursuing a multi-pronged legal strategy to challenge the entire process.
