Morocco and Senegal Storm into AFCON Semis

 

Hosts Morocco and Senegal have booked their spots in the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, held in Morocco. Morocco secured a 2-0 win over Cameroon, thanks to Brahim Diaz’s fifth goal of the tournament and a late strike from Ismael Saibari.

 

According to TheCable, Diaz’s goal was a result of a corner kick that was headed towards goal by Ayoub El Kaabi, and Diaz was quick to react, bundling the ball into the net. This victory marks Morocco’s sixth AFCON semi-final appearance and their first since 2004.

 

Senegal, on the other hand, edged past Mali 1-0, with Iliman Ndiaye scoring the decisive goal in the 27th minute. The Teranga Lions defended resolutely to secure their semi-final ticket, making it their third appearance in the last four tournaments.

 

The semi-final lineup is set, with Egypt facing Senegal on January 14, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Grand Stade de Tanger in Tangier, and Morocco taking on Nigeria at 9:00 p.m. at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

 

The winners of these matches will advance to the final, while the losing teams will contest the third-place playoff. The AFCON 2025 final is scheduled to take place on January 18, 2026, in Rabat.
