Troops Foil Bandits’ Incursion into Kano Communities

The Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force has successfully repelled an attack by bandits in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, following a prolonged gun battle. The clash occurred in Yankwada, Babanduhu, and nearby villages, with the bandits arriving on motorcycles and firing sporadically.

The attack is believed to be a revenge mission after some of the bandits’ fighters were killed by troops in an earlier encounter. The military spokesperson in Kano, Maj. Zubair Babatunde, confirmed that the troops responded swiftly, engaging and dislodging the attackers.

The bandits, who were armed with heavy weapons, including rocket launchers, were unable to penetrate the main population centers. The timely intervention of the JTF prevented casualties and significant damage to property. One civilian was reportedly killed, and about 100 cattle were rustled, although the military denies these reports ¹ ².

The Chairman of the Shanono/Bagwai Community Security Forum, Yahya Bagobiri, praised the security forces for their bravery and urged the Federal Government to strengthen military presence in the area. The military has reassured residents of their commitment to protecting lives and property.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region, with bandits and armed groups operating across forested border areas. The Nigerian Army remains on high alert to prevent further attacks and sustain peace across the state.
