Somalia Condemns Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland

Somalia Condemns Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland as ‘Naked Invasion’

Somalia’s president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has strongly condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent state, calling it a “naked invasion” and a threat to regional stability. The Somali government views this move as a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The African Union and several Arab and African countries have rejected Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, citing it as a grave violation of international law and the UN Charter. The European Union has also urged respect for Somalia’s sovereignty, calling for dialogue between Mogadishu and Somaliland.

Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but remains unrecognized by the international community, except for Israel. The region has enjoyed relative peace and stability, but its recognition is seen as a challenge to Somalia’s sovereignty.

The Somali government has described Israel’s recognition as “unlawful” and a “deliberate attack” on Somalia’s sovereignty. The government is seeking support from the international community to uphold its territorial integrity.

The situation remains tense, with the international community watching closely. The recognition of Somaliland by Israel has sparked concerns about potential instability in the Horn of Africa region.
