Summon “Ofori-Atta Before God: A Call to Action”

Summon “Ofori-Atta Before God: A Call to Action”

The extradition of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has sparked a national debate, with many Ghanaians demanding that he returns home to face justice. As a nation that reveres God and believes in the power of prayer, we must come together to demand accountability from our leaders.
The facts are clear: Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister was marked by controversy, with allegations of corruption and mismanagement of public funds. Despite his claims of innocence, many Ghanaians believe that he has a lot to answer for. The recent comments by the Attorney-General suggest that the government is exploring options to bring him back to Ghana to face trial.
However, there is every indication that Mr Ken Ofori Atta’s guilty conscience has made him battle ready for tough legal battles with the government of the republic of Ghana. Reason for which he is said to have built a ‘fire wall’ of topnotch lawyers around himself in the US.
As a Christian nation, we believe in the power of prayer and the importance of accountability. Ofori-Atta, a self-proclaimed Bible-quoting minister, must be held accountable for his actions. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to corruption and allow our leaders to escape justice.
In Ghana, we acknowledge the supremacy of God in all aspects of our national life. Our parliament and law courts begin their proceedings with prayer. Our national anthem and pledge invoke the name of God. Even our oath of office, taken by the President and public officials, ends with “So help me God”. This year, the government declared a national prayer and Thanksgiving Day in honour of God.
Given our deep-rooted faith, I call on our leaders – the Attorney-General, the OSP and all state institutions concerned with the fight against bribery and corruption – to seek spiritual guidance in retrieving looted assets and bringing Ofori-Atta back to Ghana to account for his tenure of office. With all the religious leaders across Christianity, Islam, and African traditional religion able to pray for results, why can’t we mobilize spiritual exercises to bring Ofori-Atta to justice?
The resources being spent on this extradition proces could build schools, clinics, senior high infrastructure, or as start up capital to our traders and small and medium scale businesses. But Ofori-Atta’s actions have led us to this point. I challenge the authorities and all Ghanaians: if we truly believe in God, why not pray fervently for Ofori-Atta to face justice? If human efforts fail, let us kneel as a nation and ask God why Ofori-Atta shouldn’t face justice for his alleged atrocities against Ghana. If the system allowed him to walk freely after his $ 2.244 million ‘Obotan’ Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) housing project scandal in the past, he must certainly not go scot-free under the current dispensation.
I urge all believers to support efforts to bring the former Finance Minister to account. Let this be a challenge as we enter Christmas and the New Year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all Ghanaians! Let us demand justice and assure God of our true belief in Him.
