The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cancelled the November 5 and 6, 2026, mid-term break for all basic schools nationwide to make up for instructional time lost during the recent industrial action.
According to the Service, the decision is to enable schools to recover academic time lost and ensure the academic calendar stays on track for the term.
Heads of basic schools have been directed to ensure that teaching and learning continue on those days as normal, and to communicate the change to parents and guardians.
The cancellation has however received mixed reactions from parents and teachers, with some expressing concerns about the short notice and the need for rest for both pupils and teachers.
GES says it will monitor compliance across the country and has urged regional and district directors to ensure smooth implementation of the directive.
