Hawa Koomson: I Don’t Look For Fights But Defend

Newly elected NPP National Women’s Organiser Mavis Hawa Koomson has broken her silence after her victory at Baba Yara Sports Stadium, declaring she is not a troublemaker but will fiercely defend herself when attacked.
“I’m not someone who looks for fights, but if one comes my way, I’ll defend myself,” Hawa Koomson stated in an interview monitored on http://Howedey.com after the NPP National Delegates Conference held on Saturday, 3rd October, 2026, where over 7,163 delegates voted.
Hawa Koomson secured 783 votes to beat her sole contender Hajia Safia Mohammed who polled 429 votes. Her election marks a return to prominent national leadership after three terms as MP for Awutu Senya East from 2012 and service as Minister for Special Development Initiatives and Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.
Explaining her tough stance, she referenced the July 11, 2025 Ablekuma North rerun assault. “If I had not carried pepper spray with me, I would have died in the Ablekuma North rerun assault,” she recounted. She has pledged to ensure every Ghanaian woman is given pepper spray and training on how to stand up and be tough.
The former MP said her immediate priority is to mobilize women across all 16 regions ahead of 2028. She thanked delegates after being declared winner and promised to work with all members and ensure the women’s wing becomes the backbone of NPP’s comeback.
