“What have we done to you” – Naa Odoley confronts military over La Beach demolition

The Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has confronted military personnel over the demolition of structures around the La Beach Resort, questioning why the La area was being targeted despite assurances from government that the area would be spared. The confrontation happened on Thursday, 2nd October, 2026, during an ongoing demolition exercise.

Speaking emotionally at the scene, the MP shouted “What have we done to you” as military officers supervised the pulling down of structures believed to belong to residents and small business operators along the beach. According to Citi Newsroom, the demolition has left several families displaced and sparked tension in the La Dadekotopon constituency.

Naa Odoley Sowah argued that the La Traditional Area had been assured that their lands around the beach would not be affected by state operations. She said the sudden military-led demolition contradicts earlier stakeholder engagements and undermines trust between the community and government.

Residents who gathered at the scene supported the MP’s stance, claiming they were not given adequate notice. Some alleged their livelihoods depend on the beach economy and the exercise will push them into hardship. The MP has vowed to raise the matter on the floor of Parliament and demand answers from the Ministry of Defence.
