Konongo Police Break: One Of Six Escaped Fugitives Recaptured

One of the six fugitives who escaped through a hand-dug hole at the Konongo Police Cells in the Asante Akim Central Municipality has been re-arrested from his hideout in Kumasi.

The Police has mounted an intensive manhunt to recapture the remaining five fugitives after the daring jailbreak that shocked residents of Konongo. According to authorities, the inmates made their escape through a newly dug hole leading to the Police station’s detached washrooms.

After squeezing through the hole to exit the cell, the fugitives scaled the perimeter walls and fled into the night. Police sources say the hole was dug over several days and hidden from officers on duty.

Police swiftly launched a search operation, resulting in the re-arrest of one escapee in Kumasi, while five others remain at large. The Ashanti Regional Police Command says it has deployed intelligence teams and is working with community informants to track the remaining fugitives.

Residents of Konongo have expressed concern over security at the police cells, calling for urgent renovation and increased surveillance. Police authorities have assured the public that investigations are underway to determine whether there was internal collusion.
