Minister for Communications, Digital Technology & Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has stated that if the FBI had led the recent cybercrime operation, a documentary put together by the UK National Crime Agency (NCA) and British Intelligence wouldn’t have been seen, adding that Ghana is not interested in who takes credit. He spoke on Ghana Tonight on TV3.

Sam George explained that the operation that dismantled a major cyber fraud network in Ghana was intelligence-led by Ghanaian agencies with support from British partners, not the FBI. He said the existence of a detailed documentary produced by the NCA and British Intelligence proves where the real operational collaboration happened, contrary to claims of sole FBI leadership.

According to the Minister, Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority, EOCO and the Ghana Police Service worked closely with the UK NCA over months to track suspects involved in business email compromise and romance scams targeting victims in the UK and US. The joint effort led to simultaneous raids in Accra and other locations, with equipment and digital evidence seized.

“If the FBI had led the operation, a documentary put together by the NCA and British Intelligence wouldn’t have been seen,” Sam George said on TV3 Ghana Tonight. He added that Ghana is not interested in a credit contest but in protecting its reputation and ensuring that the facts of international law enforcement cooperation are accurately reported to the public.

The Minister emphasised that international partnerships in cybercrime fighting are vital, but narrative control matters. He said Ghana has built strong cybercrime-fighting capacity and should be recognised as a leader in West Africa, not as a junior partner. He called for accurate reporting that reflects joint efforts rather than single-agency glory.

Viewers on TV3 Ghana Tonight praised Sam George for defending Ghana’s institutions, while others urged all agencies, including the FBI, NCA and EOCO, to focus on sustained collaboration rather than public credit, as cyber fraud continues to evolve and harm victims globally.
