The three unions – Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT-GH) – declared a nationwide strike over conditions of service, promotion arrears and allowances. The strike has disrupted academic activities in public basic and senior high schools across the country.
“We are optimistic that by close of day, the three striking teacher unions will suspend or call off their strike,” the Minister told journalists after the meeting. He appealed to teachers to consider the plight of students and return to the classroom while government finalises implementation timelines for outstanding demands.
Ghanaians are watching closely as the day unfolds, hoping that by close of work on Friday, the teacher unions will announce suspension of the strike and pave way for full resumption of teaching and learning in all public schools nationwide.
