Bawumia Pays Special Tribute To Chairman Wontumi Dedicated Service

NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has paid a glowing tribute to former Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, at the ongoing National Delegates Congress of the New Patriotic Party. His statement drew loud applause from delegates gathered at the Congress grounds.

“I pay special tribute to Chairman Wontumi for his years of dedicated service and sacrifice,” Dr. Bawumia said on stage at the National Delegates Congress. The NPP Flagbearer described Chairman Wontumi as a grassroots pillar whose financial support, mobilization, and loyalty helped make Ashanti Region the party’s strongest electoral base for over a decade.

Speaking to thousands of delegates at the National Delegates Congress, Dr. Bawumia said the party must never forget the sacrifices of leaders like Chairman Wontumi who built the NPP’s structures with their resources and time. He noted that the Ashanti Region’s consistent electoral performance was due to years of dedicated work by Wontumi and his team.

The tribute comes shortly after Chairman Wontumi lost his sister Madam Regina Wiafe Antwi. Dr. Bawumia used the Congress platform to extend condolences to the Antwi Boasiako family and called on delegates to show solidarity during their time of grief and legal challenges.

Chairman Wontumi served as Ashanti Regional Chairman for over a decade and remains one of the party’s most influential grassroots organizers. Observers say Dr. Bawumia’s tribute at the ongoing National Delegates Congress is part of broader efforts to reunite the NPP ahead of the 2028 elections, especially in its Ashanti stronghold.

Delegates at the ongoing Congress have called for unity and compassion as the party prepares for internal rebuilding and national campaign activities. The Congress continues with speeches from national executives and flagbearer hopefuls.
