The Controller and Accountant General Department has confirmed in Accra that it has processed and paid all 6079 teacher promotion cases submitted by the Ghana Education Service including arrears in the September 2026 salaries.
The Department said payroll processing for September captured every validated promotion file received from GES. It explained that teachers who saw increases this month reflect the full settlement of their promotion arrears. The move ends months of agitation over delayed upgrades.
Outstanding cases remain unpaid because required documents are still pending from GES. According to the Controller and Accountant General Department, it cannot validate and process promotions without official submission and proper payroll inputs from the Education Service. Teachers with missing files are advised to follow up through their district directors.
The clearance covers 6079 cases and aligns with government efforts to clean the public sector payroll and improve compensation management. Under CAGD rules, promotions require validated letters, assumption of duty forms and IPPD updates before salary adjustments. The Department uses the Government of Ghana payroll system to prevent unearned salaries and ensure timely payment.
Teachers across the country have in recent months protested delays in promotions and arrears. Unions including GNAT and NAGRAT pressed for faster processing. The September payment brings relief for thousands while spotlighting the documentation chain between GES headquarters and CAGD. GES is now expected to fast track the remaining files.
