Facts surrounding the EOCO invitation to Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah have been clarified in Accra showing he was never personally investigated but his law firm Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners which legally represents SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited was the entity under probe. The clarification follows his recent arrest after becoming vocal for Madam Salomey in the Ghana Jollof matter.
According to the statement from the firm, EOCO in a letter dated 10th February 2026 invited the Senior Partner to report to the Executive Director or his representative on Tuesday 17th February 2026 at 10am at EOCO Head Office in Accra to assist with investigations into SIC Life Savings and Loans. On 18th February 2026 the Senior Partner responded that he was now a Member of Parliament and had referred the letter to the Clerk to Parliament for advice.
Following that referral, a lawful representative of the firm fully cooperated with EOCO on three separate occasions on 4th March 2026, 18th March 2026 and 30th April 2026 and provided all necessary information requested. A formal written statement dated 30th April 2026 in relation to the matter was subsequently submitted to EOCO to close the engagement.
The statement emphasized that since the lawful representative engaged EOCO and submitted the required information and formal statement, there has been no further invitation until the present arrest which appears to have arisen only after the MP became vocal in his representation of Madam Salomey in the Ghana Jollof matter. Legal watchers say the timeline raises questions about procedural fairness.
In Ghana law enforcement context, EOCO operates under the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act to investigate economic crimes while parliamentary privilege requires notification to the Clerk before MPs are compelled.
