NPP Delegates Conference: Officers Election Set For October 3

The New Patriotic Party National Officers Elections Committee has announced that preparations are on course for the party National Annual Delegates Conference and election of national officers on October 3, 2026 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The committee said logistics, security and accreditation arrangements have been finalized to host thousands of delegates expected to elect new national executives to steer the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The NPP said the conference will be the highest decision making forum outside congress, responsible for electing national chairman, general secretary, treasurer, organizers, women organizer, youth organizer and Nasara coordinator, while reviewing party constitution amendments and strategic roadmap. The Ashanti Region capital was chosen to reaffirm the party stronghold connection and to accommodate large delegate turnout with improved stadium infrastructure and access control measures.

The Elections Committee confirmed that proxy voting has been approved under strict verification rules to allow eligible delegates who are unavoidably absent to participate through accredited representatives. According to the NPP National Officers Elections Committee, the final delegates register will be available from September 17, while the final proxy register will be published on September 27 to ensure transparency, timely objection and prevention of impersonation ahead of the Kumasi conference.

In Ghana political party architecture, national officers elections are governed by party constitutions filed with the Electoral Commission under the Political Parties Act, with delegates comprising polling station executives, constituency executives, regional executives, Members of Parliament, former appointees and external branches. Evergreen systems include delegate accreditation, proxy voting procedures requiring sworn affidavits and party ID verification, and electoral college weighting that determines national leadership legitimacy. The National Annual Delegates Conference also serves as platform for manifesto review, Free SHS policy assessment and mobilization strategies for BECE and WASSCE graduate youth wings.

The NPP said Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be zoned into accreditation, voting, media and security perimeters, with joint police and internal security operations to prevent clashes and ensure smooth voting. Aspirants are expected to intensify campaigns across 16 regions before the delegates register display window closes, while the Elections Committee warns against vote buying, intimidation and unauthorized campaign materials within the stadium enclave.

Stakeholders anticipate that the October 3 election will set the tone for NPP unity, fundraising and grassroots reorganization ahead of 2028. The party has urged delegates to verify names on the September 17 final register, adhere to proxy rules for the September 27 publication and cooperate with electoral officials to deliver a credible conference that reinforces internal democracy and public confidence in the party electoral process.
