Fruitful Friendships
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” — Proverbs 17:17 ESV
God never intended for us to walk this life alone. He designed us for relationships that build, heal, and sharpen us. Fruitful friendships are not just about company. They are about Christlikeness. A
fruitful friendship reflects Jesus. It loves “at all times” — in the good seasons and in the hard ones.
It speaks truth in love. “Faithful are the wounds of a friend” — Proverbs 27:6 ESV.
It bears burdens. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” — Galatians 6:2 ESV. It celebrates without envy and weeps without judgment. These kinds of friendships don’t happen by accident. They are cultivated, and they are sustained by the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit teaches us to be selfless instead of selfish, to forgive quickly, to listen well, and to serve without keeping score. “With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another
in love” — Ephesians 4:2 ESV. When you are filled with the Spirit, you have grace to be the kind
of friend God wants you to be, even when the other person is difficult.
Be intentional about who you walk with. Iron sharpens iron. “Walk with the wise and become wise” — Proverbs 13:20 ESV. Surround yourself with people who point you to Jesus, pray with you, and call you higher. And be that friend to someone else. God uses relationships to grow us. Ask Him today for fruitful friendships — and for the grace to be one.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of friendship. Fill me with Your Spirit so I can love well, speak truth
kindly, and bear with others in patience. Bring godly people into my life, and help me to be a godly
friend. Let my relationships bring glory to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
