Akofena: Our father deserves better than family feud
Kwadwo Safo Akofena has appealed to Ghanaians to forgive his family for allowing a private disagreement to spill into the public domain, saying the situation has caused unnecessary embarrassment to their father, the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo. Speaking during a Zoom interview with Onua FM on Monday, August 10, 2026, Akofena accepted responsibility for the controversy and said all members of the family involved must acknowledge their part in the dispute rather than blame one another.
“I want to apologise to Ghanaians for the embarrassment we caused our father and how our issues went public. He doesn’t deserve this,” he said. Akofena stressed that he would not single out any family member for blame, insisting that the circumstances surrounding the dispute reflected shortcomings on all sides. “I will not blame anyone for what has happened. We are all at fault, so I seek forgiveness,” he added.
The Kristo Asafo Mission leader also disclosed that he had already apologized publicly to members of his church as part of efforts to bring the controversy to an end. According to him, he knelt before a congregation of nearly 15,000 people during a church service and appealed for forgiveness, while urging members to put the dispute behind them. “When I went to church yesterday, I knelt in front of almost 15,000 people to apologise. I told the whole church that we should let everything that has happened go,” he said.
Akofena said the family’s attention should now shift towards preserving the dignity, reputation and legacy of their father rather than allowing their differences to deepen divisions among them. “Our father deserves more than this,” he said. Akofena described the dispute as an unfortunate reflection of human nature, arguing that family disagreements can occur regardless of a person’s social status, influence or background.
He said the controversy should serve as a reminder that prominent families are not immune to the ordinary disagreements and mistakes that occur in other families. “Things like this happen in every family and make us know that we’re humans and we have blood running through our veins. To err is human, no matter how great the person is or the kind of family you come from, you’re still human,” he stated.
His comments come amid heightened public attention to disagreements involving members of the family of Apostle Kwadwo Safo, with details of the dispute becoming a subject of widespread public discussion. Akofena, however, appealed to the public to allow the family the privacy and space needed to resolve its differences without further public scrutiny. “Ghanaians should forgive us,” he pleaded, stating that the family would be better served by drawing a line under the controversy and focusing on reconciliation and the protection of their father’s legacy.
