Mahama Shakes Up National Security Council Secretariat

President John Dramani Mahama has approved a reorganisation of the National Security Council Secretariat, resulting in the appointment and reassignment of six senior security officials to key operational, intelligence, logistics and investigative positions. The changes, announced on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, are aimed at reshaping the structure of the Secretariat and strengthening the coordination of national security operations.

Under the new arrangement, Major (Rtd.) General William Ayamdo, a former Chief of Army Staff, has been appointed Deputy National Security Coordinator in charge of Operations. His appointment places a senior military figure with extensive command experience in a key operational role within the country’s national security architecture.

Yaw Donkor, who previously served as the National Security Coordinator, has also been reassigned. He will now serve as Director of Intelligence and Research at the Office of the National Security Advisor. The reorganisation also affects the Secretariat’s logistical and administrative functions. Adamu Saaka has been appointed Director of Logistics and Transport, while Faustina Effah-Boadi will serve as Officer in Charge of the Human Security Department.

In another significant change, DCOP (Rtd.) Peter Ndekugri has been appointed Officer in Charge of the Special Investigations Unit, giving him responsibility for a specialized area of national security investigations. Meanwhile, ACP Alhassan Osman has been reassigned to the Ghana Police Service for further deployment.

The Presidency said the appointments and reassignments take immediate effect. The restructuring comes as the National Security Council Secretariat continues to play a central role in coordinating intelligence, security operations and responses to threats affecting the country.

The appointments were announced by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, in a statement and the changes bring together officials with backgrounds in military command, policing, intelligence and specialised investigations across different arms of the Secretariat.
