President’s Remarks: Gov’t Debunks Ghc150 Million Fund Claims

The Government has dismissed claims surrounding a viral video of President John Dramani Mahama’s remarks on the release of GH¢150 million, describing attempts to portray the comments differently as a deliberate distortion aimed at misleading the public.

Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu in a Facebook Post on Monday July 27, said the President’s statement was made in the context of discussions on post-flood mitigation efforts and had been taken out of context for partisan purposes.

“Some misguided elements have sought to distort the President’s words in this video to achieve narrow partisan ends,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said.

He explained that President Mahama’s reference to the “release” of GH¢150 million was solely related to funding approved for post-flood mitigation works.

“The President clearly speaks of the ‘release’ of GH¢150 million, which was in direct reference to funds for post-flood mitigation works. That is what he was discussing with the National Security Coordinator and nothing more,” he stated.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu urged the public not to be swayed by what he described as false narratives being circulated about the video. “Disregard the mischievous lies!” he said.

The clarification comes amid widespread debate on social media following the circulation of the video, with some commentators suggesting the President’s remarks referred to matters unrelated to the government’s flood response.

Government maintains that the GH¢150 million was released specifically to support post-flood mitigation measures aimed at reducing the impact of future flooding, insisting that any contrary interpretation of the President’s comments is inaccurate and misleading.
