A major fire has broken out at the Melcom warehouse located within the Tema Free Zones enclave, prompting an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) as efforts continue to bring the situation under control.
Firefighters are currently at the scene working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby facilities within the industrial area. Thick plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the warehouse as emergency personnel intensified firefighting operations.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities have yet to determine what may have triggered the incident. Investigations are expected to commence once the fire has been fully extinguished.
As of the latest update, no casualties or injuries have been confirmed. It is also unclear whether any workers were inside the warehouse when the fire started or the extent of damage to goods and property.
The Tema Free Zones enclave hosts several manufacturing, logistics and warehousing facilities, raising concerns about the potential impact of the fire on nearby businesses if it is not quickly contained.
Officials from the Ghana National Fire Service are expected to provide further details as firefighting operations progress and more information becomes available.
Authorities have urged the public to stay away from the area to allow emergency responders to carry out their work safely while traffic around the affected zone may be temporarily disrupted.
Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
