Abronye Escalates Agyapong Feud to UN Security Council

Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, has declared his intention to petition the United Nations Security Council over alleged threats to his life purportedly issued by former legislator Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. The dramatic internationalization of a domestic political feud raises stakes for party cohesion and state security apparatus.

Abronye contends that the purported menaces constitute a grave breach of his fundamental rights and warrant supranational attention, arguing that domestic mechanisms have proven inadequate to guarantee his safety. He insists that elevating the matter to the Security Council will compel scrutiny of political intimidation and the protection of dissenting voices within democratic systems. The New Patriotic Party stalwart framed his impending petition as a last resort after exhausting local remedial avenues.

The acrimony between the two political heavyweights has simmered for months, punctuated by vitriolic exchanges across media platforms and public gatherings. According to Citi Newsroom, Abronye alleges that the threats followed his trenchant criticism of certain party decisions and personalities, which he describes as his constitutional prerogative. Security analysts note that while the Security Council’s mandate primarily covers threats to international peace, individuals have previously sought its moral authority to spotlight grave human rights concerns.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a firebrand former Member of Parliament renowned for combative rhetoric, has previously dismissed similar accusations and maintains that his utterances are routinely misinterpreted. According to Citi Newsroom, party elders have attempted mediation, though factional undercurrents persist within the ruling party’s regional structures. The Ghana Police Service has yet to issue a formal statement on any ongoing investigation into the alleged threats.

The proposed petition tests the boundaries of international intervention in domestic political disputes and may reshape how partisan hostilities are adjudicated when protagonists perceive institutional failure.
