Muntaka Touts Security Gains Before Parliament

Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka assured legislators of substantial strides in neutralising pervasive security threats, citing intensified operations against armed robbery, land guard syndicates, and lawlessness in mining enclaves.

According to the Minister for the Interior, law enforcement agencies have apprehended multiple suspects linked to the Adabraka gold shop heist that occurred late last year, underscoring what he described as a reinvigorated posture toward organised criminality. He emphasised that intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration were yielding tangible outcomes across volatile jurisdictions.

According to the Ghana Police Service, tactical deployments have been reinforced in mineral-rich districts where illegal mining and land disputes frequently foment violence. The service noted that community engagement frameworks are being expanded to dismantle entrenched networks of land guards who terrorise residents and undermine lawful property rights.

Armed robbery and land guard activities have long bedevilled urban and peri-urban communities, eroding public confidence and stifling investment. According to security analyst Dr. Kwesi Aning, the persistence of such threats is symptomatic of governance gaps and socioeconomic desperation, yet recent arrests demonstrate that sustained political will can disrupt criminal enterprises and restore order.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, forthcoming measures include specialised training for rapid response units, digitisation of crime data for predictive policing, and legislative review to impose stiffer sanctions on land guard operations. The minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and creating a climate conducive to economic activity, urging public vigilance and cooperation with security agencies.
