Security Concerns Halt NDC Chairman’s North East Tour

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has suspended his planned “Thank You Tour” of the North East Region due to heightened security concerns following a recent attack on a military convoy in Bawku. According to #MetroNews, the decision was made after consultations with security agencies, citing the worsening security situation in the area.

The tour, which was scheduled to begin on April 29, was aimed at reconnecting with party faithful and appreciating their support in the recent elections. However, with the security concerns, the NDC leadership has decided to prioritize the safety of their chairman, supporters, and the general public.

A senior member of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) confirmed that the decision was taken to avoid any potential danger, stating, “Anytime there are disturbances, there are spillover effects. To be safe, we have decided to avoid the trip and focus on finding a lasting solution to these issues” ¹.

The Bawku area has been experiencing recurring violence, and the recent attack on military personnel has escalated tensions, prompting heightened security measures in the region. The NDC leadership has yet to announce new dates for the regional tour.

The suspension of the tour has reportedly disappointed many party supporters who had prepared to welcome the chairman across six constituencies.
