The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) is calling for the immediate restoration of automatic posting for teachers, criticizing the recent recruitment of 7,000 teachers as insufficient to address the backlog of trained graduates awaiting placement. According to #CitiNewsroom, TTAG President Nanija Devine emphasized that the current recruitment approach is limited and unstructured, leaving many qualified teachers without jobs.
The association argues that the proposed recruitment figure falls short of addressing the backlog of trained teachers from 2022, 2023, and 2024 cohorts. TTAG is urging the government to publish a clear national roadmap outlining how it intends to clear the existing backlog and absorb future graduates into the education sector.
Devine stated that the association will not remain silent as delays and uncertainty continue to affect its members, stressing that the issue goes beyond employment figures to matters of fairness and confidence in Ghana’s teacher education system. The TTAG leader emphasized that teacher employment should follow a predictable, annual process to give graduates clarity after completing their training.
The association has announced plans for demonstrations across public colleges of education nationwide, scheduled for April 24, to draw attention to the concerns of trainees and trained teachers. TTAG is seeking constructive engagement with government authorities on the issue of teacher recruitment.
According to #Peacefm, the demonstrations are intended to provide a platform for teacher trainees to express concerns regarding the limited number of recruitment slots in relation to the existing backlog of trained teachers.
