Uganda Police Crackdown on Opposition Lawyers

A team of lawyers and leaders from Uganda’s National Unity Platform were blocked from accessing the home of Bobi Wine in Magere on 16th February, 2026 in a shocking display of police brutality. According to the party, hooded police and military operatives have kept the home under siege since a raid a month ago.

One lawyer, Kakuru Tumusiime, was violently arrested and brutalised during the incident. He was later dumped at a police station, interrogated about the whereabouts of his leader Bobi Wine and released on bond. Tumusiime has been charged with ‘common nuisance’.

The incident has sparked outrage, coming on a day Uganda is commemorating Bishop Janani Luwum Day. The National Unity Platform has condemned the actions of the police, stating that they will not be intimidated.

The police have been accused of using excessive force against opposition groups, raising concerns about human rights abuses in Uganda. The incident is the latest in a series of crackdowns on opposition figures.

The international community is watching the situation closely, with calls for restraint and respect for human rights. The people of Uganda demand answers and justice for the victims of police brutality.

The struggle for freedom and democracy in Uganda continues, with the people refusing to be silenced.
