NPP’s Internal Crisis Deepens with Court Challenge

A brewing storm within Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) has spilled into the courts, with prominent figures Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng and Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe joining forces with National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart Dr. Christine Amoako-Nuamah to challenge the party’s internal voting structures. According to 3NewsGH, the trio has invoked the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, citing concerns over the legitimacy of the party’s electoral processes.

The move comes amid tensions within the NPP, with Frimpong-Boateng, a former Environment Minister, facing possible expulsion from the party over comments he made criticizing the NPP as a “fake party”. Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the NPP, has publicly backed Frimpong-Boateng, stating that he agrees with his assessment of the party’s problems.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Supreme Court is set to hear the case, which could have significant implications for the NPP’s internal dynamics and potentially impact the country’s political landscape. The petitioners argue that the party’s voting structures are undemocratic and violate the principles of fairness and transparency.

The NPP has been grappling with internal conflicts, particularly in the lead-up to its presidential primaries. The party’s leadership has been accused of manipulating the electoral process to favor certain candidates.

The outcome of the court case is being closely watched, as it could set a precedent for how political parties in Ghana manage their internal affairs.

The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to bring clarity to the matter, but the road ahead looks uncertain for the NPP.
