Ken Agyapong Objects Refuses Peace Pact

Drama Unfolds at NPP Peace Pact Signing as Ken Agyapong Objects

In a tense moment that threatened to derail the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) peace pact ceremony, flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong refused to sign the document, citing objections to a particular clause. The incident occurred at the Alisa Hotel, where the party’s presidential aspirants had gathered to commit to a peaceful process ahead of the January 31, 2026, primaries.

According to eyewitnesses, Agyapong appeared moody throughout the program and tensions peaked when copies of the agreement were distributed for endorsement. He reportedly shouted, “I won’t sign this document if this clause is not taken out!” The outburst drew murmurs from the room, where former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other party dignitaries were present.

The peace pact, organized by the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee, aimed to secure a firm commitment from aspirants to maintain calm and respect the outcome of the party’s upcoming presidential primaries. It took the direct intervention of the Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee, Joe Osei-Owusu, to resolve the impasse, before Agyapong finally appended his signature.

The incident highlights the intense competition among the NPP’s presidential aspirants, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Yaw Osei Adutwum, who were all present at the ceremony. Despite the disruption, the event ended successfully, with all aspirants committing to a peaceful process and a united front after the winner is declared.

The NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee had emphasized the importance of fostering unity and transparency throughout the electoral process. The committee’s chairman, Joseph Osei-Owusu, had announced measures to ensure credibility and inclusiveness, including engagement with former Presidents and the Electoral Commission.

The incident is likely to heighten tensions within the party as it approaches the primaries. The NPP has urged supporters to exercise restraint and caution against circulating unverified information that could undermine confidence in the electoral process.
