Police Promote 17 Officers for Outstanding Service

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted 17 police officers in recognition of their exceptional operational performance and dedication to duty. The promotions, announced on January 27, 2026, were awarded to officers who played key roles in separate operations that led to significant seizures of suspected narcotic drugs and illegal firearms.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the officers were promoted for their outstanding professionalism and bravery in executing critical operations in the Volta Region and Jacobu in the Ashanti Region. One operation resulted in the interception of 10 wrapped slabs of substances suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of GH¢1,032,650.00, as well as several sacks of other suspected narcotic drugs.

In a separate operation, officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, and eight rounds of live AAA ammunition during a routine patrol in Jacobu. The Police Service described the operation as a critical preventive intervention that averted the potential use of illegal firearms in violent crimes.

IGP Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board, congratulated the promoted officers for their courage, integrity, and service to the nation. “These promotions are not only a reward for your dedication but also a call to even greater responsibility,” Mr. Yohuno said.

The promotions are part of the Ghana Police Service’s efforts to recognize and reward outstanding personnel, while enforcing strict internal accountability measures to maintain public trust. The Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking, illegal arms proliferation, and organized crime.

The promotions have been welcomed as a boost to morale and a demonstration of the Police Service’s commitment to excellence and integrity.
