Nigerian Official’s Dramatic Faint

A Nigerian government official, Daniel Pondei, allegedly pretended to faint during a parliamentary hearing when questioned about missing funds. The incident, which occurred in 2020, has resurfaced on social media, sparking widespread reactions.

Pondei, the acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), was being grilled about a missing 536 million naira (over Rs260 million) paid to a humanitarian organization. As the questioning intensified, Pondei suddenly slumped forward in his chair, appearing to faint.

The dramatic move didn’t fool everyone, with many social media users accusing him of faking the faint to avoid answering questions. Others, however, expressed concern for his health, suggesting he might have had a stroke.

The incident led to the abrupt end of the hearing, with Pondei being escorted out of the room by lawmakers and officials. The NDDC had been facing allegations of large-scale fund mismanagement, which they denied.

The video has sparked a mix of humor and outrage online, with some users joking about using the tactic to dodge questions, while others lamented the state of governance in Nigeria.
