NPP Condemns Ho Municipal Assembly’s Demolition Efforts, Cries Foul Play

Ho, Volta Region – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has vehemently condemned the Ho Municipal Assembly’s efforts to demolish its Ho Central Constituency office, accusing the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of malicious political witch-hunt.

James Geh, Communications Officer of the Ho Central NPP, described the assembly’s decision as a “wanton show of power” and warned that “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” He made the remarks on the GBC Volta Star Radio morning show with Tony Mark-Boye, stating that the party has been “heating” the assembly’s decision for the past three days.

According to Geh, the property in question belongs to former Volta Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Archibald Letsa, and was acquired and duly registered with the Lands Commission of Ghana. “He did not acquire or build it during his tenure as Regional Minister,” Geh emphasized.

Geh questioned the rationale behind the demolition, arguing that a party office can never become a car park under any circumstances. “The NDC’s actions are ephemeral, and we will not stand idly by while they attempt to intimidate us,” he warned.

The NPP has been reeling from the shock of the assembly’s sudden decision to demolish the office, which has served as a party hub since 2009. Party officials, including Frank Ahaze, Chairman of the Ho Central Constituency, have appealed to the Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Adom, to intervene and halt the demolition.

The assembly’s actions have sparked outrage among party supporters, with many calling for calm and restraint. The NPP is expected to take a strong stance against the demolition, with party officials urging the assembly to reconsider its decision.

The incident has further strained relations between the NPP and the NDC in the Volta Region, with the former accusing the latter of using state machinery to harass and intimidate its members.
